February 10th Northern California fishing Report

SMITH RIVER FISHING REPORT: We fished the Smith the last 12 days. The river went from unfishable blown out one day. To low clear conditions. That made catching these fish really difficult. That was all within 12 days. Thats how fast things change on the Smith River. Timing is everything on the Smith. We had some really good fishing days. Followed by some really hard days. This river requires the knowledge of knowing where the fish are hanging out at certain flows. Knowing this river and setting up the boat to make the right cast is key on Steelhead fishing. We side drifted with roe and 14mm soft eggs. Both had there days. Having both really helped me out.

TRINITY RIVER FISHING REPORT: The Trinity had a big push of water from the last storm. That brought up more fish. There are fish scattered from Willow Creek all the way up to Lewiston. Trinity River will see some of the biggest fish in February. The boat pressure is light right now. Some days you won’t see another boat. Trinity gives clients many chances at hooking fish. The Trinity River is 455cfs right now. Thats great flows for fishing. If you are wanting to get a Steelhead trip in before the season is over, now is the time. I have dates available. All you will need is a current fishing license, Steelhead report card and your lunch.

SACRAMENTO RIVER FISHING REPORT: the Sacramento River is really low and clear its at 3960 cfs. thats about as low as it gets. The fishing is pretty tough in the Redding area. we will need some rain and bigger flows to change things on the Sac. Egg paterns and fresh cured roe, is going to be your best bet for catching fish. Back trolling small size 50 hot shots and side drifting small spoons work well. Come March-June things will change in a big way. We will see some of the best Trout/Steelhead fishing in Redding CA. Right here on the Sacramento River. This is when the SAC RIVER shines. Everyone that fishes in my boat that time of year has a great time. It has become a favorite fishing trip for many clients. We are side drifting only this time of year so its hands on. It is fun for all ages. A average day on the SACRAMENTO RIVER IS 20 TO 50 FISH DAYS! You will be hard pressed to find better fishing for Wild Rainbow Trout/Steelhead then that. Give this one a shot you will be glad you did.
