FEBRUARY 14TH 2020 Sacramento River SPRING TIME TROUT FISHING REPORT

LOWER SACRAMENTO RIVER SPRING TIME TROUT FISHING IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER. We have been chasing Steelhead between Trinity and the Smith River for the last 4 months. Things are starting to slow down with Steelhead. We will continue to fish the Trinity for another couple weeks. We will finish up over there until November. We are getting excited for warmer, longer days on the Sacramento River. The weather has been really warm for this time of year. With that the Sacramento River Trout/Steelhead are keying in on bugs like small dark caddis. Any day there will be PMD’S starting to come off in big numbers. This is what gets these SAC RIVER TROUT feeding /gorging them selfs. To the point where there shaped like footballs. If we see warm temps and low flows on the SACRAMENTO RIVER, you can bet the fish are going to be keyed in on these bugs. If we start to see bigger flows like 12,000 to 30,000, like we did last year on the SACRAMENTO RIVER, the Sac river Trout/Steelhead will push to the edges of the Sacramento River. They move to the soft edges or on the turns and along flats. Any soft water you can find will hold these Sac river fish in big numbers. When the flows are at this stage egg patterns work extremely well. The color of your eggs and size of the egg will play a big roll in more bites. When the flows on the SACRAMENTO RIVER are big we are in the power boat side drifting. Its just way more productive. We will be running light action 9’ g.loomis rods with 6 to 8 lb test line. Fighting these fish is a blast. These SACRAMENTO RIVER WILD RAINBOWS are full of power and will defiantly test your skills. They are just flat out fun to catch. Either way if we have high flows or low flows on the Sacramento River we will be having a good time. This has become my favorite times to fish the Sacramento River. We are fishing right through the middle of Redding CA. There are some really nice places to stay with a short drive to the river. Plan your trip and come up and experience the Sacramento River Trout/Steelhead fishing with us!!! follow us on Facebook or Instagram for more recent photos and fishing reports.
